Empyrea Part 2 School Frog Pet Drop Guide

Empyrea Part 2 introduced new roaming bosses (one of my favorite small additions to later worlds). They're Humongofrogs with special school symbols on each one. They drop from different bosses across the different locations in Empyrea Part 2. Take a look at what's available!

Roaming Bosses

One of the cool things about roaming bosses is that they don't require the completion of any quests, they're not locked inside an instance or gauntlet, and they're not too tough to fight. These roaming bosses are spread out across different locations of Empyrea Part 2. Each boss drops a pet frog associated with its school.

Noble Humongofrog

All of the new pets come with the same pedigree (though they have different talent lineups). Each one also comes with a Noble Humongofrog card. This is a 6-pip Myth spell that does 75 + 525 over three rounds to all enemies.

It's not a bad AoE for Myth, though DoT spells are not very popular for most battles. For the rest of the schools, however, it isn't very good at all. Yes, you can just remove it from your deck, but it seems like a missed opportunity to include unique spells on each frog, such as Colossafrog, or whatever the Death version of the spell is called.

Death-ish Frog

Drops from: Briar Scourge and Brainworm | Location: Chaos Jungle (Streamportal: Mandalla) and Southwest Aero Plains (Streamportal: Port Aero)

I should note on this pet that it is a confirmed drop from Briar Scourge. I believe it also drops at the Brainworm but have yet to confirm this. All of the frogs almost have a body pattern that looks like it could be a stick figure of some kind... or a skeleton. None are so complete as the Death-ish Frog, with the skeleton head representing the Death school and completing the body. This high-contrast black and white body makes for a really cool frog pet!

Briar Scourge | Rank 17 Ice & Death Boss | 14,500 health
Briar Scourge is located in the Chaos Jungle, one of the last locations in Empyrea Part 2. He's readily accessible along with other plant-based enemies. Beward: his pet can provide him with a Tower Shield. His minions can use absorb shields and heals, but besides his slightly increased health, this boss isn't too difficult.

Life-ish Frog

Drops from: Brainworm | Location: Southwest Aero Plains (Streamportal: Port Aero)

All of the frogs have some pretty angry eyes, but how a pair of green ones? The Life-ish frog comes in earth tones with a leaf symbol. Lots of green and brown. The nice thing about this frog is that you get to farm a boss that's in the beautiful Aero Plains... although brain worms aren't exactly my idea of an ideal getaway.

Brainworm | Rank 17 Life & Death Boss | 13,000 health
The Brainworm is in the Southwest Aero Plains. It isn't too much of a walk from Port Aero, but check the map if you're uncertain. The Brainworm is accompanied by a number of Myth-based Ear Worms. Be cautious of heavy blade setups, as they can and will cast Earthquake. Brainworm's pet can cast a Life Shield as well (most boss pets cast a shield opposite their school - this leads me to believe Brainworm also drops the Death-ish Frog).

Myth-ish Frog

Drops from: Enormishtoad | Location: Northeast Aero Plains (Streamportal: Port Aero)

A frog with a frog pet... that can't be right. The Myth-ish Frog, like the Death one, uses contrast via complimentary colors to make for a really nice-looking frog. This yellow and blue pet features a Myth-like symbol that is probably the closest to its actual school symbol as any of the frogs get. This pet is also dropped by a boss in the beautiful Aero Plains! It's probably one of the more appealing pets because its card can actually be used by Myth wizards (though you can now remove any item cards from your deck anyway).

Enormishtoad | Rank 17 Myth Boss | 12,200 health
Aha! This must surely be the source of our Frog-ish pets! These Aero Plains critters are near the frog prince (again, don't hesitate to use the map when navigating the Aero Plains). While Enormishtoad is Myth, I don't know that I've seen him use Earthquake. It's not as much of a concern as with Brainworm. Instead, beware his Death minions, which can use Beguile! They would Beguile me on a semi-regular basis while farming, especially with multiple characters.

Storm-ish Frog

Drops from: Sepidula | Location: Samsura Village (Streamportal: Mandalla)

This is probably one of the coolest looking frogs in my opinion. The Storm-ish Frog has dark purple eyes with a royal purple body and a more brilliant yellow than the Myth-ish Frog. It has two lighting bolts as its school symbol. It's the only pet you can farm for outside of Aero Plains and surrounding cities or the Chaos Jungle.

Sepidula | Rank Storm Boss | 11,000 health
While Sepidula has the least health of any of the bosses, the ice minions that surround it have the most of any of the minions with these bosses, and they can cast Tower Shield. This boss is particularly interesting because it's the only one you can't access without doing quests. It isn't until later on that any enemies appear on the "streets" in Samsura Village.

Fire-ish Frog

Drops from: Deputy Fife | Location: Velo City (Streamportal: Port Aero)

The Fire-ish drog is pretty wild with its deep red eyes and black and red color scheme. He looks particularly angry (or at least like he has some kind of eye infection). This frog has flames as its school symbol, but the coloring could make it a good fit for other schools like Death as well. Definitely a must-have for pet collectors!

Deputy Fife | Rank 17 Fire & Balance Boss | 12,500 health
This is one of the easiest bosses to find. He's wandering around the only two battle circle areas in Velo City. On the other hand, it's also one of the toughest bosses to defeat. Deputy Fife has a pretty good resistance to a number of schools, and his pet provides him with one Elemental Shield, so if you're attacking with an elemental school spell, be prepared with a prism or shield removal. As a Fire boss, he can also hit pretty hard, too.

Ice-ish Frog

Drops from: Briar Scourge | Location: Chaos Jungle (Streamportal: Mandalla)

Getting sick of all that sunshine and all those clear skies in the Aero Plains? What's that? You're not? Well, uh... you've got to go to the dark Chaos Jungle anyway if you want this Ice-ish Frog, which is also dropped by Briar Scourge. It has a snowflake symbol to represent the Ice school. Like the Life pet, it comes in various shades of a similar color: blue.

Balance-ish Frog

Drops from: Deputy Fife | Location: Velo City (Streamportal: Port Aero)

Deputy Fife is my least favorite of the bosses to battle, but you'll have to spend a fair amount of time with him if you also want this second pet, the Balance-ish frog. I really like the color combinations on this one. The red and tan work nicely together. The school symbol, a Balance, is one that's closer to the actual school symbol than some other frogs.

Will you be farming for any of the school frogs?

Thanks for reading and see you in the Spiral!
