Wizard101 Nimbari Hoard Pack Review

Wizard101's latest pack has arrived. The Nimbari Hoard Pack offers wizards a chance to traverse Empyrea in style in a new chariot mount or build their own fan base of dwarves. Let's take a look at the new pack and whether it's worth spending crowns on.

Nimarbi Hoard Pack: What's Inside

This is our second Empyrea-themed pack. The gear, mount, housing items, and pet are Nimbari-themed as you might imagine, but the house guests are dwarves. We have an Alphoi pack already and a dwarf-themed bundle, so we're officially done with Empyrea paid content now, right? Right?! Either way, there are a few exciting new things to grab in this pack.

Nimbari Chariot Mount & Hurricanine Pet

The highlight of most hoard packs is the mount. In this case, it's a conservative mount that holds two passengers. It's been quite awhile since we've had a multi-person mount from a pack. It has lightning jumping between the bottom of the chariot and the ground. I'm pleased to say that the permanent mount doesn't seem terribly difficult to get, and some people have reported opening multiple permanent mounts. Furthermore, the number of one-day and seven-day versions appearing in the pack seems to be minimal, which is a huge plus.

Nimbari Gear & Swords

This pack has some of the more attractive gear, in my opinion, than a lot of the recent packs and Empyrea sets. I like the Nimbari look with the armor, and I think the swords in particular look pretty darn cool.

In terms of stats, the robes follow the existing trend of focusing on defense and are not of any note. The hats work okay for offensive builds but don't rival a lot of existing hats in terms of overall stats. The boots, as usual, are the most viable. While they offer some nice resistance, their lack of power pip chance and the fact that their damage and critical don't live up to other boot options, I don't see them being enormously popular. The wands offer some impressive damage. If your setup either doesn't use much block or you get enough from other pieces, they might be worth using.

In terms of stats, the gear follows the general trends of recent items. The hats may work in an offense-focused setup, but don't really contend for the best overall stats. They might be worth looking at.

The robes, given that they follow recent gear trends, are not really of much note and won't likely be very popular. They have some potential as defensive robes for tank builds, but lack any healing bonus provided by items like the Jade Robe.

The boots, as usual, are the most viable. While they offer some nice resistance, their lack of power pip chance and the fact that their damage and critical don't live up to other boot options, I don't see them being enormously popular. 

The wands offer some impressive damage. If your setup either doesn't use much block or you get enough from other pieces, they might be worth using. They all include new shift spells that mimic the Terror's Hoard Pack wands.

Furniture, House Guests, & More

One of the nice things about this pack is that many of its filler items are new. We've got some dwarf house guests with a Whirlyburly theme to them, plus a bunch of Nimbari furniture. Some of the furniture items are quite unique. Your odds of getting something new, especially in your early packs, is pretty good. That being said, the furniture can be and is being sold to the Bazaar. You may be able to find what you want there, especially after the pack has been out for awhile.

Pack Analysis

This pack tends to break the trend of a lot of previous packs (particularly all of the holiday ones we've seen lately). It appears that you are guaranteed one of the new items in the bottom center slot, but you also have a chance to receive new items in any other slot. Given the rarity of the rental mounts, that leaves you with pretty good odds. Gear is fairly common, though hats and boots are, as usual, much more common than robes and wands.

The Verdict

While this pack is still new, I'd say it's definitely worth a few purchases. However, as the furniture becomes available at the Bazaar (it has already begun to), you'll need to assess whether or not you want want any of the remaining items, primarily for cosmetic reasons.

I'm encouraged by some of the changes in this pack and I like that the filler items seem a little more meaningful than just pure junk, but I still wish we saw fewer plants, poor snacks, reagents, and treasure cards. Pirate101's first pack contained 100% new items and one of the newer packs uses the equivalent of mega snacks for filler content - let's see THAT in Wizard101!
